Internews Europe Organisation File

Internews Europe is an international non-profit organization whose mission is to empower local media worldwide to give people the news and information they need, the ability to connect and the means to make their voices heard.

Internews originally set up a European headquarters in Paris in 1995 in the wake of the collapse of the Soviet Union and communist Eastern Europe. Our founders, a cross section of highly respected European and international media experts, shared the vision that the media not only had the role of reporting events but also had the potential to promote peace and reconciliation. They believed the media and the enlightened use of new communications technology could be supported to empower civil society organizations, increase democratic development and improve access to human rights.

Today, Internews Europe is a Registered Charity (no. 1148404) and non-profit Company Limited by Guarantee (no. 7891107) in England and Wales. Our European headquarters sits at the heart of London’s emerging ‘tech city’ and international NGO quarter. We are governed by an independent Board of Trustees who work collaboratively with their both counterpart board in the US and our international management team. Internews Europe funding primarily comes from grants and contracts with a variety of donor governments, the European Commission and private foundations.
