Description
The Africa Research and Impact Network is an International Think Tank designed as a network of over 200 researchers and policymakers, with National Focal Points across 36 African countries aimed at; i) consolidating evidence from various African contexts and leveraging these to support policies and capacity building, and ii) promoting research excellence and sharing on best research and impact practices. ARIN has vast experience in generating and consolidating evidence on what works or not, focusing on the key strategic sectors or themes within the global research and development agenda. ARIN has pioneered path breaking STI studies focusing on the Science-Policy interface in Africa with respect to policy, data, and evidence. The networks team has led path breaking STI research in Africa including the Assessment of STI Metrics in Africa where indicators were developed for more than 40 African countries to support assessment of R4D progress and investment opportunities. Development of STI database for the East Africa Science Technology and Innovation Commission (EASTECO) and country level R4D studies including the first Kenya Innovation Outlook and research commercialisation studies through which we developed a framework for measuring innovation R4D progress. The ARIN provides a unique convening platform for the science-policy interface in Africa, building on research evidence. It recognizes that Africa is home to multiple researchers, innovation, and best policy practices, but these remain poorly shared and utilized to inform impactful Research and Development Agenda. The ARIN, therefore, provides a peer review platform where best research and impact practices from different African contexts are shared, profiled, and leveraged to inform trans-formative policy action. Areas of focus include natural resource management, climate change, agriculture, forestry, energy, water, and cities to leverage their knowledge and experiences in promoting research excellence and impact pathways. ARIN’s mission is to promote research excellence and dialogue on best research and impact practices, by providing platforms for science-policy interface in Africa, building on research evidence.
