Description

ATAF is an international organisation consisting of 38 African member states. Its objectives are to promote co-operation, knowledge sharing and capacity building among African tax administrations, as well as represent the interests of African tax systems in the global environment. Over the last 10 years since its launch in 2009, ATAF has been the premier pan-African organisation with a specific focus on the improvement of tax systems, freeing African countries from aid dependency and enabling the provision of better services for their citizens. ATAF’s role has been increasingly recognised in African countries, on the continent more generally and in the global tax environment. It has a high reputation for the effectiveness of its work, and the significance of its impact through important international networks which actively contribute to the global tax agenda. ATAF work directly focuses on 2 key areas: technical assistance and research which inform its broader representative role. Specifically, ATAF offers technical support and advisory services to Revenue Authorities through country-based programmes on domestic and international taxes and tax systems including audit, and administrative structures, and domestic and international tax policy, exchange of information. It also carries out capacity building training. ATAF also has an important research arm which has developed vehicles such as the African Tax Outlook, the African Research Network and the Executive master’s degree on Taxation. Finally, ATAF provides an African voice on tax matters on a global level and facilities peer learning and exchange.
