Description

Established in 2011, the Centre of Dialogue on Human Settlement and Poverty Alleviation (CODOHSAPA) is a non-profit and non-governmental organisation dedicated to mobilising and providing technical and financial support to its community counterpart, the Federation of Urban and Rural Poor (FEDURP). FEDURP is comprised of vulnerable women, men, youth, and children who are organised around dynamic saving schemes and networked at settlement, city, regional and national levels. Together, they drive collective, bottom-up initiatives aimed at influencing change towards inclusive and resilient cities and localities and contribute to the national development agenda. The Vision is, “Empowered urban and rural poor communities for their social, economic and environmental transformation;” and the Mission is, “We seek to empower urban and rural poor communities to improve their social, economic, and environmental conditions by creating spaces and opportunities through collaborative actions to champion their own transformative and development agenda.” CODOHSAPA's overarching approach encompasses a multi-faceted strategy aimed at fostering sustainable development and resilience within communities. It prioritises empowering individuals and communities through life skills training, access to micro-finance, and support for income-generating activities to create long-term, resilient livelihood options. Additionally, it emphasises the importance of locally led climate adaptation, providing resources and knowledge to enable communities to develop tailored resilience strategies. Through robust measurement, reporting, and verification processes, it ensures accurate tracking and assessment of the impact and changes created. Furthermore, it focuses on institutional strengthening by enhancing our organisation's capacity and effectiveness through staff training, governance improvements, and the development of robust policies and procedures. Lastly, its advocacy and outreach initiatives aim to raise awareness, influence policies, and mobilise support for environmental and social issues, driving positive change at local, national, and international levels.
