Description

Institute of Psychiatry, is an Academic Unit of Rawalpindi Medical University and a Tertiary CareMental Health Facility at Benazir Bhutto Hospital, Rawalpindi, Pakistan. The Institute was established in 1973 as the Department of Psychiatry of Rawalpindi Medical College and over the years attained an international repute as the Institute of Psychiatry on the Globe of Mental Health. The institute of Psychiatry has long standing multi-sectorial collaboration with both national and international organizations. It is a partner in various mental health projects in association with the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulation & Coordination, Provincial Health Departments, International Agencies like WHO, UNODC, Education Department, Schools, Law Enforcement Agencies and various National and International Universities. The institute is a recognized teaching & training center for post-graduate Fellowship training in psychiatry by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan and a training center for clinical psychology training. It also provides training for psychiatric nursing to the undergraduate nursing schools. The Institute of psychiatry has been a forerunner in instituting the community mental health program, the first of its kind in the country and the EMRO Region. The Institute works closely on conception, planning and implementation of WHO projects and vision statements.
