Description
Foundation and Establishment: Mission for Emergency Aid and Lifesaving (MEAL) was founded in [2007] as Access for Relief and Development (ARD) by a group of dedicated professionals and humanitarians who recognized the urgent need to address the humanitarian crisis in Somalia. The founders were driven by a deep commitment to alleviating human suffering and promoting sustainable development. Early Years: In its initial phase, MEAL focused on emergency livelihood support for lifesaving services. The organization quickly established itself as a key player in the humanitarian landscape of Somalia, collaborating with international NGOs and UN agencies to scale up operations. Growth and Expansion: Over the years, MEAL has diversified its programs to include climate change, environement, Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH), education, livelihoods, and protection services, Shelter & NFI. The organization has expanded its geographical coverage to reach remote and underserved areas, particularly in South and Central Somalia. Strategic partnerships with local, national, and international stakeholders have been instrumental in this growth. From ARD to MEAL: After witnessing the rise of duplicating name abbreviations similar to our organizational name of ARD, and as well our decision to formulate our organizational name to our program thematic areas of emergency aid and lifesaving projects, in professional consultation with our internal audit department, we have decided to move from ARD to MEAL.
