Pump Aid was established in 1998 and is a UK based charity working in the field of water and sanitation in rural communities in Africa. Our area of operation is sub-Saharan Africa and at present our main programme is in Malawi. Our aim is to ensure rural communities have access to clean and fresh drinking water, good sanitation and demonstrate healthy hygiene practices. Our main technology is a modified rope and washer pump, which is low cost, easily maintained sustainable technology well suited to poor rural communities. We go further than just building water pumps as we train local community facilitators to educate and create awareness of good health and hygiene practices.
