Description
SDI-Kenya is a non-profit organization providing technical support to Muungano wa Wanavijijij, the National Movement of the urban poor in Kenya. Its vision is to have Inclusive-Cities- where low-income communities have adequate housing and services, and can live in dignity. Formed in 1996, the movement brings together local groups from cities and towns to improve the quality of life of slum dwellers and urban poor people in Kenya through a process of policy advocacy and dialogue. Muungano Wa Wanavijiji is currently working in 21 counties in Kenya, partnering with different county governments and other Civil Society Organizations. SDI-Kenya in partnership with World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), SouthSouthNorth (SSN), Akina Mama Afrika, and Hivos are implementing a five-year lobby and advocacy program that aims to scale up climate action responses targeting vulnerable communities. In this regard, SDI Kenya is seeking to collaborate with 3 county governments in implementing the program in the region. The county governments will be instrumental in demonstrating the climate challenges it has faced over time at the county scale, and help in shaping effective climate solutions in order to improve the overall well-being and quality of life of the residents. In line with the program's overall vision, the collaboration will also strengthen the grassroots movement’s decision-making in climate action and amplify community voices.
