Description

The Somali Children Development Association (SOCDA) is a women-led locally driven, non- governmental, and non-profit organization established in 2016 under the provisions of Somalia's Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) law and in alignment with the country’s constitution. SOCDA was founded by Somali intellectuals and community leaders in response to the aftermath of the Somali civil war, which left the nation grappling with protracted conflict, weakened institutions, and widespread humanitarian crises. The civil war followed by years of instability, created deep-rooted challenges, especially for Somalia’s vulnerable populations—women, children, and internally displaced persons (IDPs). These groups have suffered the brunt of violence, displacement, poverty, and limited access to basic services such as education, healthcare, and protection. Recognizing the need for a community-driven approach to address these challenges, SOCDA was formed to restore hope and build resilience in Somalia’s most affected regions. SOCDA’s mission is to promote sustainable development by enhancing access to essential services and advocating for the protection and empowerment of children and women. The organization operates with a core belief that community empowerment is vital for peace, stability, and long- term economic growth. SOCDA’s strategic interventions include programs in education, health and Nutrition, Food security and livelihoods, protection, and peacebuilding, all grounded in principles of gender equality and inclusive development. Operating in some of Somalia’s most underserved areas, such as the Hirshabele, Jubbaland, Southwest states and Banadir region, SOCDA collaborates with both local and international partners to create sustainable, community-led solutions that address the root causes of conflict and under-development.
